Holiday Gift Ideas for Book Lovers!

Christmas time: a wonderful time for holiday cheer, hot cocoa, and reading by the fire. However, with the holiday cheer comes the stress from gift planning. Is your friend an avid reader, and you don’t know what to get them for the jolliest time of the year? Here are 10 bookish Christmas gift recommendations!

1. Book Ends

Your friend might want something nicer than a paperweight to support the books on their shelves. Bookends are a perfect Christmas gift for a person who might want to snazzy up their book shelves in a useful manner. The best part? Bookends come in so many different shapes, colors, sizes, etc. You can even customize your friend, family member, or partner’s bookend to fit their personality!

2. Page Light

I'm sure a lot of us have grown up secretly reading a book in the dark past their bedtime with a flashlight. Although I’m sure a lot of us have grown out of that habit, we might still want to read in the dark during long car rides at night, or dimly lit areas. Page lights are perfect for anyone who finds themselves in those kinds of situations, and unlike having to hold a phone or a flashlight, both your hands and arms can rest gently at their side or holding the book as the page light sits gently atop the book page by itself. Whilst lighting the page in a bright enough fluorescent that won’t make your eyes strain.

3. Bookmark

An oldie, but a goodie. Like bookends, bookmarks can come in a variety of different shapes, sizes, and colors, and can be customized to any extent. A lot of readers surprisingly need good book marks for their reading pleasures, either because they're too lazy to find one in the nooks and crannies of their houses, or they prefer to just use whatever to mark their pages (a sticky note, receipt, my friend once used a hairbrush.. yikes!) Bookmarks, depending on the quality, are usually cheap items to buy. However, they can be decked out with special technological functions such as a page counter or a timer that allows the reader to keep track of how long they’ve read for. These are usually more expensive versions though. You can even make the simple present even more special by making the bookmark yourself! Just cut out a small rectangle and personalize it to fit the aesthetic of the person you’re gifting it to.

4. Page Magnets

Okay, what if your giftee doesn’t like bookmarks? Page magnets are alternatives that don't crease the pages of a book too much. Book magnets come in a lot of different shapes and sizes as well, and can serve the versatility of not only marking a page, but can hold many pages together all at once for stationary purposes.

5. Sticky Notes

This one is mainly for annotating readers. I can assure you that sticky notes are very precious to those who love to annotate books, but don’t like writing on the actual pages themselves. Sticky notes come at extremely cheap prices, and in a lot of fun colors and designs, so buy your giftee an abundance of sticky notes to fill their book annotating desires!

6. Book-Sized Satchel

Readers either have to lug around a really big backpack with their items just to hold a book or they have to carry it in their hands because there wasn’t enough room in their side bags that were just too small to fit an entire book. Solution? Get a book sized satchel that’ll fit a book and any other small items that a reader will need in life.

7. Coffee, hot cocoa, tea (or really any hot drink)

Next one is a must, especially during the winter season. A hot drink whilst reading is one of the most coziest ways to spend a calm winter night, counting down the days till christmas or any winter holiday! There’s nothing better than reading with a nice hot cup of cocoa or tea, maybe next to a fireplace. A starbucks gift card will suffice as well, or maybe brewing your own coffee/tea/hot drink.

8. Snacks for Reading

What’s your reader friend, family member, partner’s favorite snack? Get it for them for the holidays, snacks whilst reading are kind of like an alternative to eating full meals (just kidding).

9. Fuzzy Socks

Is it just my reader friends who love to cozy up in bed wearing fuzzy socks while reading their favorite book? Fuzzy socks in bed is an extremely cozy experience that your giftee will surely enjoy! Maybe even leave a fun message within the socks themselves.

10. A Book, Of Course!

Nothing is more apparent to give a reader than an actual book! Ask Santa what their must reads were for this year, and bam! Instant perfect holiday present.

What are you going to gift your reader buddy this year?
