The main message that we promote here at Book Bears is that reading is crucial, especially for young kids with growing minds. So, what better way to get kids reading than giving them some festive books to enjoy? Our beloved autumn holiday Halloween is coming up at the end of the month and since our usual annual traditions have been put on hold, I thought it would be a good idea to suggest a few spooky selections for kids!
To start off, we’ll go over some familiar reads. Have you heard of Pinkalicious? Or Pete the Cat? What about Peppa Pig, or the Berenstain Bears? These are all popular among children and always enjoyable as well. These well-known books and shows have made special episodes or editions for the Halloween season!
As a child, some of my favorite books to read were the Llama Llama books. I had so much
fun with them and loved reading the Halloween edition of it. Llama Llama Trick or Treat by Anna Dewdney is all about Llama Llama getting ready for Halloween.

Although this book is relatively short, with only a few pages and a few words on each one, it is still an excellent read for children because of its rhyming structure. Rhyming books have been proven to be beneficial for kids. Rhyming engages them, improves their speaking skills, and boosts their memory, vocabulary, reading skills, listening skills, imaginative skills and overall cognitive skills. All Llama Llama books have a rhyming pattern and are an absolute blast to read. I would highly suggest any Llama Llama books, especially the Halloween version in celebration of the upcoming holiday! Some more festive fall reads include:

In addition to these well known series’ Halloween editions, there are countless other books to get youngsters in the Halloween spirit! Turkey Trick or Treat by Wendy Silvano is slightly longer and follows Turkey as he dresses up to try and get candy. I love this book and children will too! It is sure to get them excited for the fall season, and a perfect book to read with them! Some more Halloween reads are:
These books are sure to get kids excited about reading and Halloween. This year may have introduced different factors into our everyday lives, but it does not change the fact that reading is a necessity for growing minds. Find books at home or even online to get children engaged in reading! Happy Halloween, and happy reading!
