If you’ve been keeping up with our projects here at Book Bears, then you’re likely aware that we recently concluded our latest one: #clearthelist. You can read all about Project #clearthelist in this article. Simply put, Project #clearthelist is a cause that has changed the lives of thousands of educators around the world. The ClearTheList Foundation provides grant opportunities that give teachers access to classroom resources.
This winter, Book Bears had the incredible opportunity to work with a speech therapist and special education teacher from New York named Ms. Ivy Lesser. With her Amazon wishlist in mind, our goal was to clear as many items off Ms. Lesser’s list as possible. We did this by creating a GoFundMe on November 20, 2020. Seeing the progress today, the astounding generosity of the Book Bears community is apparent as ever.
Our Accomplishments!
In under two months, a total of 33 donors gave to support Ms. Lesser’s classroom, raising a grand total of $720! With these funds, Ms. Lesser’s goal is to support her students’ families financially, provide resources such as books and tablets, and overall make her online classes as helpful as possible. When interviewed back in November, Ms. Lesser told our team that some of the most important items on her list were Amazon gift cards that she could give to families who were struggling during these times. With the generosity of our community, we have the opportunity to change the lives of these families.
Ms. Lesser also mentioned that she purchases many of her classroom supplies herself, but she can now use these funds for items such as digital books and materials for packets for students who are unable to log in to virtual class. She can even invest in materials that will improve her teaching experience, such as a monitor stand that she mentioned in our interview. As members of the Book Bears community, anyone who interacted with, shared, and donated to this project should feel a sense of excitement over the opportunity to have such a positive impact.
We here at Book Bears would like to thank Ms. Lesser for her grace and kindness with us and her students. She has made an undeniable difference in the lives of many. And of course, thank you. All of this would not have been possible without the support of the Book Bears community. Together, we were able to change lives across the entire country! Our organization looks forward to our next community service project with excitement and anticipation. Book Bears pledges to stay committed to our mission of promoting literacy. We encourage everyone to continuously search for ways to serve the community. Thank you for your continued support and generosity!
